Steel Configuration

•  Approximately 500,000 sq. ft. of complex steel (Main Girders, Floor Beams, Cross Girders, Gussets, Stringers, Haunched Fascia Girders, Diagraphms, Handrail, Diagonals, Bearings)

Scope of Work

• Abrasive blasting cleaning to NACE No. 2/SSPC SP-10 (Near-White Blasting Cleaning) and the application of an Organic Zinc Rich Epoxy Primer, Epoxy Intermediate and Aliphatic Urethane Finish (Prime Coat, Intermediate Stripe Coat, Intermediate Full Coat, Finish Coat). Work also included caulking of bearings and the application of waterproof membrane to concrete abutments and pier caps.

Project Challenges

• 40% of the work performed over navigable waterways (Passaic and Hackensack Rivers). Installation of an engineered rigid corrugated access platform over the waterway utilized to provide safe access to the steel and to conform to SSPC Guide 6 Class 1A containment design.
